Description
Prickly Pear Cactus Fruit Tea
Mexicans and Native Americans have revered this plant and have eaten it and brewed it for tea for centuries. The image of a prickly pear appears on the Mexican Silver Peso. According to a legend, as the Aztecs were being pursued by enemies, they encountered an eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus. They believed this to be a sign of pending victory and settled on that site, the location of Mexico City today. Also according to a legend, while picking fruit from the prickly pear, Navajos left a strand of hair as a sacrifice to the Spirit believed to dwell in the plant.
